EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat is seeking a new contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday, Oct. 4, shortly before kickoff of the Cardinals' Week 4 game against the New York Giants.
"Josh Sweat is a name we have continually heard about," Schefter said on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown show. "He is seeking a new contract. ... That is a player that will be of interest to a lot of teams as we get closer to the November 10 trade deadline."
Sweat has been at the center of intrigue since early in the offseason, when reports surfaced that he was seeking a trade. He did not participate in the Cardinals' voluntary offseason activities and was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list ahead of training camp.
At
the time, Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said that Sweat was dealing with a knee injury.
However, after general manager Monti Ossenfort revealed in a radio appearance that Sweat had undergone an offseason "procedure," Sweat said that the procedure was not to his knee. He did not reveal any additional details about the procedure.
This week, Sweat was a late addition to the injury report with a groin injury. He was listed as questionable for the Week 4 game.
Amid all this injury uncertainty, Sweat is also off to a slow start to the season. After finishing last season with 12 sacks and a 13.3% pressure rate, he has zero sacks and a 5.1% pressure rate through three games in 2026.
Sweat is in the second season of a four-year, $76.4 million deal. The largest cap hits will come in the 2027 and 2028 seasons. He is set to count for $23.6 million against the cap in both seasons.
