Old Town Tortilla Factory closed after 30 years.
Located at 6910 E. Main St. in Scottsdale, the restaurant opened in 1995, co-founded by Dave Andrea and chef Patrick Hughes, inside an adobe house built in 1933. Aside from flour and corn tortillas, Old Town Tortilla Factory was known for flavoring tortillas with ingredients like mango, potato and even Kahlúa, which made some purists cringe. The restaurant served these with flavored butters.
Some of the draws for Old Town Tortilla Factory were its charming patio, shaded by 100-year-old pecan trees and its tequila bar.
The ownership changed to Chad and Jim Flaum in 2001.
The restaurant's social media announced a temporary closure in June, but according to a July 31 Instagram post, the closure became
permanent.
"Old Town Tortilla Factory has decided to close after three decades of serving Scottsdale! It is with much gratitude that we say goodbye to our restaurant that has been a gathering place for celebrations, special occasions, family dinners, date nights, and countless memories."
The post ended with, "Stay tuned for what's next."
"Bereft" and "devastated" fans expressed disappointment but wished the owners the best in their next venture.
At the time of this writing, the owners had not responded to The Republic's request for more information.
