Sel Bistro (formerly Sel), located at 7044 E. Main St. in Scottsdale, closed after over 10 years.
Chef Branden Levine and his wife May opened the restaurant in May 2016, serving French-inspired prix fixe tasting menus. Only four months after opening, the restaurant received four stars from The Republic. In late 2025, the couple renovated Sel, changed the name to Sel Bistro and started serving an a la carte menu.
An Instagram post dated July 24 announced that the restaurant would close from July 26 to August 6 for a summer break.
On August 9, the owners posted the news of the restaurant's permanent closure with "heavy hearts." The post continued with, "Thank you for allowing us to be part of your celebrations, special moments, and evenings around
the table. It has been an honor to serve this community."
Connar Jonas commented: "Such bittersweet news!! Sel will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything over the years, especially hosting our intimate wedding dinner! So many amazing memories!!"
Nen RG wrote: "noooo .. still my favorite chef I’ve ever worked for. Branden is a Jedi with a knife and May’s palate with cocktail wine pairings made them (fire)."
Chef Levine did respond to The Republic's request for comment.
