State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance customers could be getting money back from the insurance company as it rolls out a record $5 billion dividend to qualifying policyholders.
State Farm said it had begun issuing the payments, with millions of customers already receiving their share. The payments were expected to go to the owners of more than 49 million vehicles insured through State Farm Mutual.
A dividend is a return of policyholder premiums, or payments, according to the International Risk Management Institute. State Farm said the current payout is the largest dividend in its more than 100-year history.
"As a mutual company with a customer-first focus, State Farm Mutual is able to provide value directly to our customers while maintaining financial
strength to keep our promises in the future," State Farm Mutual President and CEO Jon Farney said in a statement. "That translated this year to lower auto rates and cash back in the form of a $5 billion policyholder dividend."
Here's what to know about the State Farm payouts, including who qualifies and how much customers could receive.
Who qualifies for the State Farm dividend?
State Farm auto customers who had an active personal car insurance policy in 2025 will receive the payment, State Farm previously told USA TODAY. The insurance company said the dividend will be paid to owners of more than 49 million vehicles across its network.
Qualifying customers will be notified of their pending payout by email or letter, according to a July State Farm news release.
How much could I get from State Farm dividend?
The payments will average about $100 per vehicle, varying by state and premiums paid, State Farm said in a February news release.
