Arizona has no shortage of memorable small towns, but according to the World Atlas, a popular online geography resource and educational website, these 11 Arizona towns were ranked among the United States' favorites in 2026.
These towns were not chosen simply because they are popular tourist destinations. Each town has a different reason for attracting visitors. For example, Sedona was picked for its red-rock landscape and outdoor recreation, while Jerome transformed its abandoned mining-town character into an arts and tourism destination. Cottonwood also made the list as it has become a center for Verde Valley wine country and Prescott attracts visitors with its historic courthouse plaza and famous Whiskey Row.

Their common strength is their ability to preserve their history while creating new reasons for people to visit, which is what helped put these Arizona towns among the country's favorites.
According to World Atlas, the towns were essentially picked because of their ability to attract travelers through distinctive experiences and their successful reinvention over time. World Atlas identifies reinvention as the common thread connecting all 11 towns. Many began as mining camps or settlements whose original purpose eventually declined, yet they found new identities through tourism, art, wine, history, outdoor recreation or wildlife.
