Brian Kaplan will not return as the Diamondbacks’ pitching coach, sources said, in what is the only known change the organization will make to Torey Lovullo’s coaching staff for next season.
Kaplan spent the past two seasons in the role, taking over after the 2024 season for Brent Strom. The Diamondbacks ranked in the middle of the pack in staff ERA this season, though several veterans enjoyed career-best years, including starters Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt, while young big leaguers emerged, such as relievers Juan Morillo and Brandyn Garcia.
Kaplan joined the Diamondbacks following a three-year run with the Philadelphia Phillies, for whom he served as assistant pitching coach and director of pitching. Prior to that, he was a co-founder
of Cressey Sports Performance, a well-regarded baseball training facility.
When the Diamondbacks hire Kaplan's replacement, it will mark the fifth different pitching coach to work under Lovullo. Next season will be Lovullo’s 11th as Diamondbacks manager.
