Unidentified human remains were found in the backyard of a family reported missing in Litchfield Park, and a family member was under investigation, police said.
The investigation began after family members requested a welfare check for a husband, wife and their adult son, Avondale police spokesperson Sgt. Jenny Chavez said in an Aug. 6 news release.
On Aug. 4, officers searched the home and discovered indications that foul play may have occurred, Chavez said. Remains were then discovered in the backyard.
Matthew Flores, 27, was a suspect in the homicide case and was believed to have fled the country before officers conducted the welfare check, according to Chavez.
The names of his parents have not yet been released, nor have the remains been officially
identified.
The incident is believed to be isolated, and there's no danger to the community, Chavez said.
