Residents and visitors should take note of the multiple weekend closures scheduled for metro Phoenix freeways, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.
"Closures are scheduled along freeways and ramps this weekend (Sept. 25-28) for improvement projects in the Phoenix area," ADOT stated in its Sept. 24 travel advisory. "Drivers should allow extra travel time and use detour routes as needed for these weekend freeway restrictions."
As the weather across metro Phoenix was temperamental throughout the week, ADOT reminded drivers that the weekend freeway restriction schedule was subject to change due to weather or other factors.
Here are the expected closures for Sept. 25-28.
Eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway)
What: Closure
When: From 10 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where:
Between 51st and 75th avenues
Why: For widening project
Detour: Consider using eastbound Union Hills Drive to 51st Avenue to connect with Loop 101.
Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway)
What: Closure
When: From 9 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where: Between Indian School Road and Interstate 10
Why: Interchange improvement project
Notes: Southbound Loop 101 ramps closed to east- and westbound I-10. Southbound Loop 101 on-ramps closed at Glendale Avenue, Cardinals Way and Camelback Road.
Detour: Consider using 83rd, 91st or 99th avenues to continue south and connect with I-10 east and west of the closure.
Southbound State Route 51
What: Closure
When: From 9 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where: Between Indian School Road and I-10
Why: Pavement maintenance
Detour: Consider using 16th or 24th streets to I-10 or Loop 202. Consider using Seventh Street to connect with westbound I-10.
Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway)
What: Closure
When: From 10 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where: Between Arizona Avenue and Price Road
Why: Widening project
Notes: Westbound Loop 202 ramps to northbound Loop 101 closed. Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps closed at Gilbert, Cooper and McQueen roads.
Detour: Consider using Pecos or Germann roads to travel beyond the closure.
Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway)
What: Closure
When: From 9 p.m. Sept. 25 to 2 p.m. Sept. 26
Where: Between Shea Boulevard and Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway)
Why: Pavement maintenance
Detour: Consider using Shea Boulevard westbound to Scottdale or Hayden roads.
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway)
What: Closure
When: From 9 p.m. Sept. 25 to 2 p.m. Sept. 27
Where: Between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Shea Boulevard
Why: Pavement maintenance
Detour: Consider using Scottdale Road or McClintock Drive/Hayden Road.
Eastbound Loop 303
What: Closure
When: From 9 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where: Between 43rd Avenue and Interstate 17
Why: Bridge construction
Detour: Consider using northbound 43rd Avenue to eastbound Dove Valley Road to connect with I-17.
State Route 347
What: Narrowed to one lane in both directions
When: From 10 p.m. Sept. 25 to 5 a.m. Sept. 28
Where: Between Casa Blanca and Riggs roads
