A man was found dead inside a Mesa apartment on Aug. 15 after someone in a nearby unit heard gunfire and found bullet holes in the walls.

Police responded about 8:45 p.m. to an apartment complex near Extension and Broadway roads, according to Detective Jose Aguirre, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department.

Officers identified a specific unit as the possible source of the gunfire, where inside they found a man dead with a possible gunshot wound, Aguirre said.

Detectives continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Police had not released the man’s identity or said what led to the gunfire.

Police said there was no known threat to the community.
