A 16-year-old boy is facing homicide charges after a man, whom the teen was accused of shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex, recently died.
Police said 35-year-old Mayker Jesus Torres Herrera was hospitalized after he was shot on June 28 but he did not survive, according to a Phoenix police update on Aug. 7.
"This case is now classified as a homicide, and the suspect will now face homicide charges," the police update stated.
Officers responded to a shooting call and found Torres Herrera with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex near Interstate 17 and Maryland Avenue in Phoenix just after 4:30 p.m. on June 28, according to police.
The shooter tried to get away, but with help from the Real-Time Operations Center, officers were alerted to the fleeing
suspect. The 16-year-old was taken into custody by police. A handgun was also found.
