BOSTON — Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said in a radio interview he plans to meet with second baseman Ketel Marte on Thursday, Aug. 20.
It is believed to be the first contact Marte will have had with a team official since not showing up to the ballpark on Monday, Aug. 17, and subsequently being placed on the restricted list.
Marte is also expected to undergo an MRI on his left knee on Thursday. In addition to the meeting, the MRI results will likely help shape the path forward. If he is seriously hurt, he could be transferred to the injured list.
Marte had been bothered by knee soreness during the previous series in Atlanta. The discomfort forced him to exit early from one game, and he did not play in the next one. He returned to the lineup
on Sunday, Aug. 16, traveled with the team to Boston, then did not show up to Fenway Park on Monday for the Diamondbacks' game against the Boston Red Sox.
It is still not clear why Marte did not show up nor why he has not been in contact with the team.
Hazen's comments were made to Arizona Sports on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
