An adult and three juveniles are in custody after the Casa Grande Police Department connected the four to the killing of Joseph Castro.
At about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 20, officers arrived at a residence where
a house party was held after receiving multiple reports of shots being fired, according to a Facebook post by the Casa Grande Police Department.
Officers arrived and found the victim, Joseph Castro, 18, dead outside the home with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the post.
Throughout the week, homicide detectives from the Casa Grande Police Department obtained the identities and whereabouts of the suspects involved in the shooting with multiple arrests made.
Police make several arrests
A 16-year-old was arrested hours after the incident after detectives identified the vehicle they were driving as being involved in the shooting. Using Flock automated license plate readers, officers tracked the vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, taking the teen into custody without incident, according to a police Facebook post.
Two additional teens, ages 16 and 17, later turned themselves in separately at the Casa Grande Public Safety Facility on Sept. 22. Both were booked into the Pinal County Juvenile Detention Facility, according to another police Facebook post.
All three teens face charges that include first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct with a firearm, minor in possession of a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
On the afternoon of Sept. 23, Laron Kelley, 20, turned himself in at the Casa Grande Public Safety Facility and was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility, according to a police Facebook post.
Kelley is being charged with first-degree murder, disorderly conduct with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
All four suspects involved in the killing of Castro were now in custody, and no additional suspects were being sought, the police Facebook post stated.
A GoFundMe page was created to help Castro's family with funeral costs and memorial expenses.
"He was a hardworking young man who always gave his best and took pride in the person he was becoming," Juliana Ramos said on the page. "Joseph was known for his beautiful smile, his happy personality, and the way he made sure the people around him knew they were loved."
