Description: Himmel Park Library in central Tucson is undergoing an $8 million renovation and expansion. Half of the library will be demolished, and new features will be added,
including increased shelving, a larger meeting space and a reading porch looking out to Himmel Park. The renovation will also include additional computer stations, a laptop bar, a new study room, larger restrooms and more.
History: Himmel Park Library is the first branch library located within city limits. The branch opened in 1961 following a public library that opened in Ajo, Arizona in 1946. Tucson's first public library, Library Hall, opened in 1886 on the top floor of the Tucson City Hall.
Completion: Late 2026 or 2027
