Five Arizona employers announced major layoffs in September, including two that will permanently close some of their facilities.
Companies signal layoffs mostly through Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification alerts or WARN notices. Federal law requires 60 days of advance written notice for mass layoffs.
In total, 415 workers were affected by the announced layoffs, mostly in metro Phoenix. The largest layoff of the month came from Restoration Forest Products in Bellemont, which announced it would lay off 130 people and close its facility.
Nationally, the number of job openings and layoffs stayed steady in August, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
