Tributes for a couple killed in a fatal boat crash in Lake Havasu poured in on social media.
Jennifer Luzzi, 59 and Charles "Chip" Romer, 65, were identified as the victims in a Sept. 12 boat collision
by the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies located a 2019 36' Douglas Marine boat upside down on land on the Arizona side, the Sheriff’s Office announced on Sept. 13. The initial investigation showed that the watercraft was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a large peninsula and became airborne. The boat traveled in the air and eventually landed in a boat-in campsite north of the initial impact, spokesperson Anita Mortensen said.
The Sheriff’s Office had not yet determined any contributing factors in the collision, and the investigation continued as of Sept. 14, Mortensen said.
Romer and Luzzi were well-known in the Lake Havasu community.
Romer owned the Romer Beverage Company, a beer and ale wholesale and distribution business based out of Kingman.
Luzzi was a notable real estate agent with Keller Williams Arizona Living Realty in Lake Havasu City.
David Morse, the CEO of the real estate group, called Luzzi “a staple in the community” and “a leader within our company,” in a tribute post.
In a company announcement, Luzzi was remembered for “her warmth, dedication, and vibrant presence touched the lives of so many within our community and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.”
Cheryl Fluent, with Absolute Speed and Marine, a boat service shop in Lake Havasu, said it was a huge loss to the community.
“They were both very generous. They gave so much back to our community. They were the most thoughtful people,” Fluent said.
Romer loved boating and being on the water, Fluent said.
In the company’s tribute post, they shared their condolences for the couple’s families.
“Chip was the kindest, most inspiring person you’d ever meet and his passion for horsepower was like no other. Chip and Jennifer will be forever missed,” the post read.
