For the first time in history, Arizona restaurants will be included in a Michelin Guide.
Thanks to funding from Visit Arizona, in collaboration with Travel Nevada, Wasatch Culinary Collective (Part of Visit Salt Lake) and New Mexico True, the first-ever Southwest Michelin Guide includes restaurants in Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.
The Michelin Guide exists in more than 25 countries and is hailed as one of the most prestigious awards a restaurant can earn. The ratings are based exclusively on food in five criteria: ingredient quality, flavor harmony, culinary technique, consistency and whether the chef's personality shines through the food.
There are three main tiers: one-, two- and three-star restaurants. One star indicates that a restaurant is
high-quality and worth a visit if you are in the area; 2 stars means it is excellent and worth a detour and 3 means it is exceptional and worth a special trip.
Restaurants can also earn the Bib Gourmand designation, which is awarded for great quality food and affordable prices. Additional restaurants may be included in the guide as recommendations, without earning any stars.
Here's a look at all Arizona restaurants recognized in the inaugural Southwest Michelin Guide.
