Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boys’ and girls’ high school athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in Arizona Interscholastic Association-sanctioned sports for last week. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls. Voting will close at 6 p.m. MST on Friday, Sept. 11, and winners will be announced on azcentral.com and in The Republic. Girls
Kylyn Taylor, Flagstaff, cross-country, Jr.: She won the NoPo Invitational in Peoria on Sept. 5, running the 5,000-meter course in 17:49.8 to set the state lead.
Shia Chancellor,
Surprise Willow Canyon, volleyball, Sr.: She had a total of 89 kills across nine games during a 9-0 week, helping Willow Canyon win the Wolves Classic Volleyball Tournament in Goodyear on Sept. 5.
Berkley France, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor, volleyball, Sr.: She had a total of 94 kills and 59 digs across 10 games in a 10-0 week, helping O’Connor win the House of Payne Volleyball Tournament in Chandler on Sept. 5.
Boys
Daequan Tigue, Glendale Deer Valley, cross-country, Sr.: He won the Boulder Creek Invitational on Sept. 5, running the 5,000-meter course in 15:38.0.
Jakob Burke, Glendale Mountain Ridge, cross-country, Sr.: He set the school record in the 5,000 meters at the NoPo Invitational in Peoria on Sept. 5, running 15:08.0.
Jamerrius Anthony, Phoenix Cortez, football, Sr.: In a 42-40 win over Phoenix Washington on Sept. 4, he ran for 269 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 117 yards and two more touchdowns.
