Phoenix Mercury guard Kelsey Plum will not play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup in Germany due to health reasons, but it seems like her injury will keep her out longer than expected.
Plum, who was traded to Phoenix just before the WNBA's deadline, has been ruled out for the remainder of the WNBA season with a left calf injury.
The 32-year-old has been dealing with the same calf injury throughout the season and was limited to just five games for the Mercury.
In a post on her Instagram account, Plum wrote: "I did everything I could to be back on the court, but just ran out of time… The decision has been made to shut it down through remainder of the season and focus on getting my body back to 100%."
Team USA will begin play in the World Cup on Friday,
Sept. 4 against China in the group stage. The game will air live on TNT at 5:15 a.m. MST (8:15 ET).
The Mercury will return to action following the World Cup break, on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Portland Fire.
Plum is set to become a free agent after the current WNBA season.
