A Peoria man stabbed and killed a dog running around loose after it attacked one of his two dogs.
At about 7 p.m. Aug. 13, a gray and white “Pitbull type dog” ran inside the garage of a neighbor’s home and attacked a small “Maltese type dog," said William Kennedy, a spokesperson for the Peoria Police Department.
The man heard one of his dogs “yelp” and turned around to see the loose dog inside his garage biting the smaller dog, Kennedy said.
The homeowner jumped on the dog, wrestled off the big dog and got the smaller ones inside the home, he said.
In the commotion, the pitbull-type dog ran inside the home.
The fight continued inside, where the Peoria man grabbed a knife and stabbed the dog, killing it, Kennedy said.
The homeowner was not attacked
and not significantly injured, according to Kennedy.
Peoria police officers and animal control responded to the call near 87th Avenue and Butler Street to investigate.
The loose dog’s owner was not cited for a city code violation, Kennedy said.
