Description: A shuttered Hilton hotel will become a training center for a construction company.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., broke ground on a 12-acre learning and training campus that also includes a hotel and conference center. The location will serve as a central hub, providing a place for professional development, technical training and collaboration opportunities, according to the company.
The spot was home to a DoubleTree by Hilton Phoenix Tempe, which closed in January. The hotel architecture was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, and McCarthy has said it will preserve the style.
The renovated campus, dubbed the McCarthy Anchor Campus, will feature
flexible classrooms, breakout spaces, on-site lodging accommodations, wellness amenities and adaptable outdoor spaces designed to support learning, collaboration and relationship building, according to McCarthy.
The company also has a workforce training center in Chandler and headquarters in Phoenix.
History: The former hotel site was bought by McCarthy for $27.5 million in January 2026. The hotel also closed in January.
When will the work be done? The training center is expected to open in early 2028.
