A wrong-way driver hit a Scottsdale police officer on a bicycle in Old Town and drove off, police said.
Officers later arrested Sean Bennett on suspicion of aggravated assault of a police officer and other offenses, Allison Sempsis of Scottsdale police said in a statement.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office booking records for Bennett list allegations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument and two offenses related to leaving the crash scene.
Officers spotted the vehicle driving erratically and traveling against traffic on Scottsdale and Camelback roads about 3:02 a.m. Oct. 24, Sempsis said.
The driver accelerated, striking an officer as police attempted to make contact, Sempsis said. The officer was taken to a hospital
with minor injuries.
The officer's current condition was not known as of Oct. 25.
Police officers found the vehicle a short time later about 6 miles north, near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard. They took Bennett into custody without further incident, Sempsis said.
