Surprise has canceled its contract with Flock and requested the company remove its automatic license plate reader cameras in the city.
Councilmember Jack Hastings, a proponent of public safety, confirmed the move in an Aug. 14 text message.
"They are flock's cameras, so (we) have requested that they take them down," Hastings said.Spokespeople for the city and Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The news comes two days after Surprise announced it was temporarily suspending the use of its Flock Safety cameras after a routine audit found an "anomaly" in the past week. The city said an officer was placed on administrative leave while investigators looked into a possible violation of ALPR policy.

councilmember, Nick Haney, said he requested that Surprise cancel its contract and have the cameras removed.
The cancellation is the latest in the Flock fallout across the Valley. In the past week and a half, law enforcement has shared that officers were suspected of misusing the system, agencies were canceling their contracts and other agencies were rethinking their policies surrounding Flock.
