Aldi is continuing its expansion in the Phoenix area.
In January, the company announced its plans to add 10 new stores in the Valley in 2026 and a total of 40 new stores by the end of 2030. This contributes to a total of 180 stores across the country that the German grocer plans on opening this year. A new distribution center was also in the works, with a plan to open in Goodyear by 2028.
Based in Batavia, Illinois, Aldi is owned by a different branch of the same family that owns Trader Joe's and is known for offering its own private-label brands at discount prices.
Aldi first entered the Phoenix market in 2020; since then, the chain has opened more than 17 stores in the area.
The plan for 10 new stores in metro Phoenix has been well underway, with
a new Mesa location that opened in May of this year at 1045 S. Gilbert Road.
What about the other promised locations though? Here's what we know about the remaining stores.
Which Aldi locations are opening in metro Phoenix?
In the city of Phoenix, the German specialty grocer has plans to open three stores in the coming months.
- In September, two new stores will open: 4727 E. Bell Road and 7830 N. 12th St.
- In October, Aldi is opening a store near Bell Road and Interstate 17 at 16801 N. 21st Ave.
The fastest-growing grocer in the U.S. recently applied for a liquor license in Scottsdale at a new store location at 7919 E. Thomas Road, in the Indian River Plaza shopping center. This will be Aldi's first store in Scottsdale, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
Earlier this year, Aldi was reported to have filed for new leases in Cave Creek and Peoria as well. In Peoria, Aldi planned to take over a building that used to house a trampoline park at the Peoria Station shopping center. In Cave Creek, the chain planned to construct a new building, according to the lease. The store will be built at the intersection of North 51st Street and East Carefree Highway. There have been no new updates on these locations.
The chain had also previously announced it was building its first Maricopa store at North John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Road in Southbridge Marketplace. A timeline for the opening was not announced.
Aldi also bought and was cleared to develop land at the southeast corner of Power and Elliot roads in Mesa, The Arizona Republic reported in early January. Shawn Eddy, a regional vice president for Aldi USA, said in January that the Power and Elliot store is expected to open by the end of 2026. There have been no updates since.
The chain was also working on a store in a former 99 Cents Only location in Mesa at Greenfield Road and Main Street. It was unclear when this location will open.
The chain also bought land in Buckeye at Indian School Road and Jackrabbit Trail, The Republic reported in October 2025.
Aldi representatives did not respond to The Arizona Republic's questions about these announced stores.
