A 21-year-old dad abducted his own 11-day-old child from Surprise and was found near Winslow, nearly 200 miles away.
Authorities said the dad wasn't alone.
The baby was reported abducted from Surprise the evening of July 31 before deputies in Navajo County, more than three hours away, found the baby with their biological father driving on Interstate 40 on the morning of Aug. 1.
The father did not have custody of the child and took the baby without the mother's permission, according to the Surprise Police Department.
The baby was "unharmed," the Navajo County Sheriff's Office said. The child was secured in a child safety seat, and deputies found a diaper bag in the car.
"Any incident involving an infant is one that law enforcement takes very seriously,"
Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse said in a news release. "We are incredibly grateful that this infant was located safely and returned unharmed."
But two other adults were also in the car, the Sheriff's Office said: a 44-year-old man and a 45-year-old female.
The identities of those involved and the relationship between the three adults have not been released. Any charges related to the incident have also not been released.
