Pima County Sheriff's deputies found human remains in a desert area outside of Tucson, the agency announced on Aug. 17.
There was "no indication they are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation," the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a statement posted on X.
The county's search-and-rescue team responded to reports of the human remains found near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard.
The remains appeared to have been in the location "for an extended period of time," the post read.
Angelica Carrillo, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Department, stated she did not have any additional information to provide.
Guthrie is the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie and was last seen on Jan. 31 at her home in the Catalina Foothills
neighborhood, north of Tucson.
A ransom note tied to the kidnapping was released by the Sheriff's Department in July and claimed she had died. Her abduction case, which captured the nation's attention, remains unsolved and has been ongoing for more than six months.
