Gas prices in Arizona continued to rise for the second week in a row, as the AAA weekly fuel report suggested that instability along the Strait of Hormuz is the leading cause behind the spike at the pump.
“Rising crude oil prices are behind the spike at the pump,” said Aldo Vazquez, spokesperson for AAA Mountain West Group. “Volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region have pushed oil prices into the $90 per barrel range and could continue driving up costs during the second half of the summer.”
Arizona residents have seen the spike at the pump, as AAA announced on July 23 the average price for regular gasoline in the state was up 18 cents from last week to $4.30 per gallon.
This placed Arizona in 7th place for the nation's top 10 most expensive gasoline markets, according to AAA.
Which cities in Arizona are feeling the pressure at the pump?
As of July 23, the average price of regular gas in metro Phoenix was $4.31, according to AAA. This was a 22-cent increase from last week, as it was reported that the average price per gallon of regular gas in Phoenix was $4.09.
Scottsdale has also seen a 21-cent increase, as of last week, AAA reported the average price per gallon of regular gas was $4.14. On July 23, the average price per gallon was $4.35.
In Glendale, AAA reported that last week's average price per gallon of regular gas was $4.09. According to the data, there was a 21-cent increase in price and the average price per gallon of regular gas was $4.30.
Peoria's gas prices have followed a similar trend as well, as the data provided by AAA states that last week's average price for a gallon of regular gas was $4.10. According to the data from July 23, the average price was $4.31, marking another 21-cent increase in price.
