One Arizona employer announced a mass layoff in July

One Arizona employer, a Tucson hospital, posted notice of upcoming mass layoffs in July.

Nationally, technology giant Intel announced it planned to lay off employees in its data center group but did not specify any locations for the layoffs. The company did not file notice with the Arizona Department of Economic Security announcing layoffs in Arizona.

Companies signal layoffs mostly through Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification alerts, or WARN notices. Federal law requires 60 days of advance written notice for mass layoffs.

Only one company announced upcoming layoffs in July, totaling 99 jobs cut.

Select Specialty Hospital -Tucson East

Select Medical Corp. announced it would close its Select Specialty Hospital -Tucson East location, eliminating 99 jobs.

“We hope to accomplish

this closing with the least possible disruption to the lives of our employees and to the community,” Mary Lacey, company senior vice president and chief human resources officer, said in a letter sent to the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

The company’s website refers patients to its Select Specialty Hospital – Tucson Northwest location.
