A 2018 deadly shooting in west Phoenix led to murder charges that were later dismissed. Now, police are releasing video of a person they believe could help solve the cold case.

Matthew Groves, 26, was shot about 4 a.m. July 21, 2018, in the area of 51st Avenue and Indian School Road, following a brief struggle with an unidentified assailant, according to a Silent Witness flyer.
Groves later died at a hospital, and a suspect was charged in January 2019 on suspicion of first-degree murder in the case. Maricopa County prosecutors dropped charges against the man days later, court records show.
Phoenix police shared on the social media platform X surveillance video of who appeared to be a man walking out of a building into the dark of night.
The post
said the person may have information related to a homicide, which Phoenix police spokesperson Christopher Berrelleza confirmed was Groves' shooting.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377), or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish.
