Scottsdale-based True Food Kitchen has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a news release published by the company on Oct. 5.
True Food Kitchen plans to use the filing to "strengthen its financial foundation, optimize its restaurant footprint and cost structure, and accelerate ongoing operational improvements", according to the news release.
Alongside the bankruptcy filing, the company has closed 12 locations in the U.S. as of Oct. 4. True Food Kitchen still has 34 open locations across 14 states, including three in Arizona.
"This process is the best path forward to simplify the business and focus on what we do best: delivering craveable, health-forward food and genuine hospitality," said Jeff Chandler, chief executive officer of True
Food Kitchen in the news release. "We are confident this step will help us build a stronger True Food Kitchen for the future."
The company is also pursuing a court-supervised sale process with hopes to find a long-term partner to help support the restaurant's future.

Of the 12 True Food Kitchen locations that closed on Oct. 4, none were in Arizona.
True Food Kitchen has three restaurants in Arizona: one each in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson.
