The Phoenix Police Department is beginning to reopen its downtown headquarters after a “major” water leak damaged several floors of the newly renovated downtown building.
“We sincerely appreciate the community’s patience and support throughout this process, as well as the hard work of everyone involved,” Phoenix Police said.
Employees were moved off-site last week due to the leak, though Phoenix police said the department remained fully operational on Sept. 25.
As part of the phased process, the department’s public records office reopened for in-person business on Sept. 29, Phoenix police said in a written statement on X.
The office, which had been damaged by the leak, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and provides services including vehicle impounds,
alarm systems permitting and payments and public records.
Phoenix police moved into the 27-story building at North First Avenue and West Washington Street and held a grand opening in March 2026. The building houses about 1,000 employees.
The city purchased the former Wells Fargo tower for $46.5 million in 2021, and said a renovation would cost $180 million.
The Police Department did not respond to The Republic’s request for comment on the leak.
