An Arizona man was found dead near the coastline of a California beach after a multiagency search and rescue mission.
Just after 1 p.m. on Oct. 13, Monterey County Sheriff's Office deputies received a report of a missing adult male scuba diver and went to Sand Dollar Beach, just off Highway 1 along the south Monterey County coastline in California, according to the Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
Multiple agencies also arrived at the scene to discover that the missing man, identified as 38-year-old Trevor Valentine of Casa Grande, Arizona, was a swimmer and not a scuba diver, the post stated.
As additional personnel searched the nearby shoreline, a lifeguard was deployed in the water where Valentine was last seen. He was found near a rocky coastline
on the south end of the beach and was unresponsive, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Lifesaving measures were administered before a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hoisted Valentine from the coastline to transfer him to awaiting medical personnel for further treatment. Despite the efforts, Valentine was pronounced dead, the Sheriff's Office stated.
In a public Facebook post, Valentine's sister Amy Rowan shared further details about the death of her brother.
"It’s unfortunate to share that my brother TJ passed away on Tuesday," Rowan said. "My family had a reunion this week in Big Sur and that’s where it all happened."
The family asked for privacy and prayers during this time, as they are processing the loss of Valentine, Rowan stated.
A GoFundMe was created to help support his wife, Casondra Valentine, and in-laws and to assist the family with funeral expenses.
"With full hearts, we announce that Trevor John Valentine went on his last adventure near family and (was) oh so loved," said GoFundMe organizer Christie Powell.
Monterey Fire and medical personnel alongside Big Sur Fire, Cambria Ambulance, California State Parks lifeguards, the U.S. Forest Service, and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter also assisted in the search for Valentine.
