On National Hot Dog Day, USA Today published a list of the best hot dogs in America. And a fan-favorite Phoenix cart took Arizona's spot among the greats.
El Caprichoso, a parking lot hot dog stand which now has several locations, has been serving Phoenix since the '90s. The hot dog cart was also voted the winner of The Republic's Sonoran Hot Dog Poll.
El Caprichoso's 35th Avenue location consistes of a grill area and about a dozen plastic dining tables under a big tarp — that's it. But even on a hot summer night, customers fill up the parking lot, drawn in by the mouthwatering smell of hot dogs and bacon sizzling on the grill.
"In the Hispanic community, it's a link, it's a connection to the culture," owner Aureliano Dominguez told The Republic.
"A lot of people have left their hometown. To find something that they really love and reminds them of their hometown, I think that's the biggest connection we can ever create."
