Arizona State is set to name its interim coach for the hockey program in the days leading up to the home opener on Friday, Oct. 9.
Athletic director Graham Rossini told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Oct. 1 that some big names in college hockey have reached out regarding the job opening.
Several names have circulated to be in the running, including Brad Berry.
Berry currently works as a consultant for the Victoria Grizzlies in the British Columbia Hockey League, a junior league from which ASU frequently recruits players.
The Alberta native was an assistant at North Dakota from 2000-06 before coaching in the NHL and AHL. He then returned to UND for 13 seasons from 2012-25, starting
as an assistant for three seasons and then 10 seasons as the head coach. His tenure included a national championship in 2016 and five regular-season NCHC titles.
North Dakota fired Berry in 2025 after missing the NCAA Tournament, with athletic director Bill Chaves citing "a move in a new direction." Berry had one year left in his contract.
ASU's interim position was not explicitly stated as a full-time position, given that coach Greg Powers has been placed on administrative leave. It's also unknown whether the current coaching staff would remain intact under the interim.
