A man was killed in a predawn shooting in Avondale, marking the community’s second homicide in recent weeks and surpassing the total number recorded there last year.
Police released few details following the Sept. 18 shooting near 4th and Main streets. The shooting was reported around 4 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, police said.
That area of Avondale remained closed for hours as investigators searched for clues about what led to the shooting.
Avondale has averaged five homicides per year since 2022, but the city now has had seven slayings in 2026 with more than three months left in the year.
On Aug. 22, a fight outside a QuikTrip gas station
led to a shooting near Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street. A 21-year-old man, Tyree West, died in that incident.
