Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley addressed a knee injury rookie safety/linebacker Kyle Louis sustained in a season-opening loss at Las Vegas.
Louis is a fourth-round pick and has been expected to play a key role due to his versatility. He has also been expected to be a core special teams player.
Hafley said Louis will be out agains the 49ers and “it might be a few weeks.”
Louis has shifted more toward the safety position in recent weeks. The Dolphins do have some depth at that position with a three-player rotation of Dante Trader, Michael Taaffe and Zayne Anderson.
But Louis' value is as a chess piece, able to cover tight ends like perhaps George Kittle, who the Dolphins face in Week 2.

Praise for Jacob Rodriguez
Dolphins safety Dante Trader on the rookie linebacker Rodriguez: "His poise is crazy. He's very, very calm. His presence is calming to everybody else. To be a rookie, to go out there with the green dot, making all the tackles, commanding the defense, and just being a dawg at the end of the day, it's infectious."
Too many mistakes in opener
Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler on the takes-no-talent variable: "We've got to make sure that we are locked in and focused and we don't beat ourselves with stupid penalties or decisions or mistakes out there."
Added Dolphins center Aaron Brewer on Hafley's message: "Eliminate the bad, you know what I'm saying? Like, you can't win when you have that many penalties and sacks and turnovers."
Special teams corrections required
Trader on special teams coverage issues in Week 1: "It comes down to just doing our job again, lane integrity, and just preparing and doing more during the week. We try harder. That's ultimately it. Special teams is a want to and a choice."
