MIAMI GARDENS — Malik Willisis not doing anything to convince the Miami Dolphins he is the team's quarterback of the future.
The Dolphins quarterback said leading into Miami's home against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 his play was not good enough.
Then it got worse.
Willis had a dreadful first half against the Bengals, finishing 5-of-12, 60 yards and two interceptions, boosted by four completions on Miami's final drive of the half that ended with time running out and the Bengals leading 21-7.
Willis' had an 18.1 quarterback rating, up from 0.6 before the final drvie.
Willis's second interception led to the Bengals' third touchdown, a 2-yard touchdown pass from Joe Burrow to tight end Tanner Hudson with 55 seconds to play.
Willis missed on his
first four passes, three of them overthrows. His first completion came with 11:40 to play in the second quarter before throwing picks on his next two attempts, both by safety Jordan Battle.
The first was tipped and Battle stepped in front of Kevin Coleman to secure the second.
Battle said during the week Willis had a tell, tapping the ball before his throws.
