Interested in a European summer vacation? American Airlines' just-announced summer 2027 schedule adds seven new routes and three new destinations across Europe and Asia.
American is adding new routes to Porto, Portugal, and Vienna, Austria, and bringing back flights to Reykjavik, Iceland, for the first time since 2019, according to an Aug. 27 release from the carrier.
Miami travelers will be able to take advantage of the new routes with nonstop flights to American’s hubs in Philadelphia (PHL), New York (JFK), Charlotte (CLT) and Chicago (ORD), the airline said, as well as expanded service to Tokyo, Japan; Nice, France; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and Barcelona, Spain.

“Coming off a summer of celebration, American is growing
to offer new destinations and routes, bolstering our premium global route offerings,” said Brian Znotins, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. “Our international network has expanded to offer destinations to satisfy every travel palate."
Tickets will be available for booking starting Aug. 31 at aa.comor through American’s mobile app.
American, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, previously announced more flights coming to Fort Lauderdale, with an additional daily flight to O'Hare International Airport (ORD), starting Sept. 9, 2026, and two additional daily flights to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) after Oct. 5.
The airline has also started selling flights from Naples to Charlotte, North Carolina, starting Dec. 2.
New American Airlines flights connect Florida to new destinations
The new routes, available to Florida travelers through nonstop flights to the U.S. hubs, are:
- Charlotte (CLT), 9X flights daily, to Barcelona (BCN), starting May 27
- New York (JFK), 8X flights daily, to:
- Amsterdam (AMS), starting March 28
- Nice, France (NCE), starting May 6
- Philadelphia (PHL), 9X flights daily, to
- Porto, Portugal (OPO), starting March 28
- Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF), starting May 27
- Vienna, Austria (VIE), starting May 6
- Chicago (ORD), 9X daily flights, to Tokyo (NRT), starting March 19
More airlines adding Florida flights
Several familiar names are also increasing their Florida presence, including:
- Allegiant Air is adding nine new nonstop routes starting next February
- Avianca Airlines added an additional daily flight between Fort Lauderdale and El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia in June.
- Breeze Airlines is adding six more flights connecting Florida airports to Atlantic City, Pittsburgh, Cancun, and St. Thomas.
- Delta Air Lines recently added a new nonstop flight between Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
- Frontier Airlines added daily service between Detroit and both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando in July, with at least nine more flights to Orlando to cities such as Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Memphis, Nashville, and more.
- JetBlue Airways is drastically increasing its service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, dropping service and airports elsewhere to do so.
- Southwest Airlines is beefing up its Florida presence with a record number of departures at Orlando International Airport starting next March.
