An Arden resident is facing a first-degree murder charge after a shooting on Friday, Sept. 4, that ended with him barricading himself in a downtown West Palm Beach hotel room.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office on Saturday, Sept. 5, announced the arrest of Todd Wegrich, who deputies took into custody after several hours of standoff at The Ben Hotel on Narcissus Avenue.
Wegrich, 53, is in the county jail and is expected to appear before a judge for the first time on Sunday, Sept. 6.
The Sheriff's Office has not released the name of the woman who died or details of the shooting. Deputies responded to a home on Tangled Orchard Trace, off Southern Boulevard about 10 miles west of State Road 7, at about 3 p.m. Sept. 4 and found the woman with what
are believed to be gunshot wounds.
Wegrich lives in the area where the shooting took place, according to county jail records.
The suspected gunman then fled to The Ben and locked himself in a guest room. The West Palm Beach police SWAT Team worked with sheriff's investigators to end the standoff.
