World Market, a national specialty retail chain that sells imported furniture, home decor and international foods, will mark its return to South Florida on Friday, Sept. 25, with a new store in Palm Beach Gardens.
The retail outlet will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m., and the store will officially open at 9 a.m. The Palm Beach Gardens site will be the World Market's only location in southeastern Florida, and marks a return to Palm Beach County after more than a decade.
The new store is in the Prosperity Centre at the corner of PGA Boulevard and Prosperity Farms Road, in the space formerly occupied by Office Depot. It is next to Plum Market, an organic grocery store that opened in March.
World Market previously had a store at the Shoppes
at Isla Verde in Wellington, but that location was closed in 2010 amid stagnant sales.
In a prepared statement, World Market CEO Eric Hunter described Palm Beach Gardens as an attractive location for growth.
“We are thrilled to open our first store in Southeast Florida and to introduce the Palm Beach Gardens community to the World Market brand,” he said.
“This location exemplifies our goal to expand our store fleet into thriving markets. We believe our inspiring shopping experience filled with an unparalleled assortment of global foods, home decor, gifts, and furniture will appeal to both existing brand fans and new customers."
World Market has 14 other Florida locations, including stores in Jacksonville, Sarasota and Daytona Beach.
Founded in 1958 as an import business on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, World Market has grown to more than 200 stores across 38 states.
Its stores are known to sell globally inspired pieces at mid‑market prices. World Market says it sources home decor, furniture and gifts from artisans and manufacturers worldwide to give its stores a “bazaar‑like” feel built around discovery and changing seasonal collections.
