More than a big college football rivalry game is scheduled to fall upon Hard Rock Stadium tonight when Miami hosts Florida State. Gloomy skies throughout the day in Miami Gardens are expected to give way to rain and thunderstorms at night that could delay the game.
Grey storm clouds dominated the sky throughout pregame tailgates. Weather forecasters predict that to continue through the night, and while heavy rains would likely not cause a break in the action, lightning in the area would.
FSU has dealt with thunderstorm delays already this season. The start of the Seminoles' game at Alabama on Sept. 19 was delayed by nearly 2 hours by lightning in the area, then saw another delay of about a half-hour late in the second quarter. The teams played
without a halftime break.
