A man is dead after a hit-and-run crash late Saturday in suburban Lake Worth Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators did not identify the man, who was struck as he crossed the 2400 block of 10th Avenue North, just west of the city limits.
The agency said it is looking for a 2003 to 2007 Black Honda Accord to its front passenger quarter-panel, its front passenger wheel well, its passenger side mirror and its passenger door window.
Investigators said the vehicle was eastbound just before 11 p.m. when it tried to pass a slower moving vehicle near the Presidente grocery store shopping plaza off Florida Mango Road, changing out and back to the outside travel lane.
The man was walking along or in the outside lane, and the vehicle
struck him as it returned there after passing the slower vehicle. The force of the crash sideswiped the man, vaulting him into the air and into an aluminum fence, the Sheriff's Office said.
The vehicle came to rest on the sidewalk on the south side of 10th Avenue NOrth, then continued eastbound and away from the scene.
