World Market, a national specialty retail chain that sells imported furniture, home decor and international foods, officially returned to South Florida on Friday, Sept. 25, with a new store in Palm Beach
Gardens.
The retail outlet hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m., and the store in the Prosperity Centre at the corner of PGA Boulevard and Prosperity Farms Road, in the space formerly occupied by Office Depot, officially opened at 9 a.m., marking a return to Palm Beach County after more than a decade.
The new store is next to Plum Market, an organic grocery store that opened in March.
World Market previously had a store at the Shoppes at Isla Verde in Wellington, but that location was closed in 2010 amid stagnant sales.
World Market has 14 other Florida locations, including stores in Jacksonville, Sarasota and Daytona Beach.
Founded in 1958 as an import business on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, World Market has grown to more than 200 stores across 38 states.
Its stores are known to sell globally inspired pieces at mid‑market prices. World Market says it sources home decor, furniture and gifts from artisans and manufacturers worldwide to give its stores a “bazaar‑like” feel built around discovery and changing seasonal collections.
