Here are the recent moves:
- Converted $511,000 of defensive lineman Zach Sieler 's per-game bonus, creating $408,000 in space.
- Converted $1.51 million of right tackle Austin Jackson's per-game bonus, creating $1.2 million in space.
- Converted $341,000 of tight end Greg Dulcich's per-game bonus, creating $272,000 in space.
- Converted $792,000 of cornerback JuJu Brents' salary, creating $634,000 in space.
Sieler and Jackson are veterans who might be on another team's shopping list, especially as the NFL Trading Deadline arrives. By making these moves, a team seeking any of these players would be paying less in salary.
Just as important, the Dolphins are expected to be more active than usual on the player front during the season, seeking free agents to continually improve their rebuilding roster. The extra money helps them during the season.
