A West Palm Beach woman is facing a vehicular homicide charge after a fatal crash along Southern Boulevard in August, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Deputies arrested Fany Rosa, 36, in the Aug. 23 wreck at the Jog Road overpass that killed Corey Watson, 36, of Lantana.
Rosa also faces charges of driving under the influence and of reckless driving. Her blood-alcohol level about 90 minutes after the wreck was more than twice the legal threshold for intoxication, according to her arrest report.
Circuit Judge Rosemarie Scher set Rosa's bail at $52,000 during a hearing at the county jail on Saturday, Sept. 19. Rosa posted bond later in the day, jail records show.
Scher also appointed a public defender to represent her.
As a policy, the county Public Defender's Office does not comment on open cases.
Driver's night at club ended with early-morning fatal crash
The crash took place shortly after 6 a.m. According to her arrest report, Rosa "had been recklessly traveling eastbound on Southern Boulevard within the westbound lanes," and the two cars struck each other near the top of the overpass.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue paramedics took both Rosa and Watson to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Watson died on Aug. 29, six days after the wreck, the Sheriff's Office said.
Rosa told deputies she had been drinking beer throughout the day and continued to do so while at a nightclub with friends and left to return home when it closed at 5 a.m., driving east on Southern.
The crash-data recorder in her 2017 Toyota Corolla indicated she was driving at about 45 mph seconds before the wreck and that she did not try to brake when Watson's 2019 Honda Insight appeared in her path, according to her arrest report.
Blood samples taken at St. Mary's find her blood alcohol level to be at 0.2, more than twice the state's legal threshold of 0.08, according to the report.
