Downtown Delray Beach mainstay Park Tavern will soon be closing its doors.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, they posted a message to their Instagram page saying: "Cheers to an amazing 15 years! As we prepare to close our doors, we're raising a glass to the guests, team members and community who made Park Tavern what it is. Join us for one last bite."
The popular restaurant located at 32 SE Second Avenue will serve their last meals on Sunday, Oct. 18.
The downtown location has been well known for their lively atmosphere and fun happy hours as well as their scratch kitchen that featured a great range of dishes.
These include sandwiches like their popular PT cheesesteak made with shaved prime rib, caramelized onions and forest mushrooms, jalapenos and fontina
cheese; the Farmhouse chicken sandwich with grilled chicken, fontina cheese and lemon-basil mayo; and entrées like their fish & chips or chicken & waffles.
Commentors across multiple social media platforms lamented the impending closure with posts of "I can't believe this," "Please don't do this," "there goes the best happy hour on the Ave.," "I will die," and "I'm not OK right now."
Other said they thought the area has become a victim of it's own incredible success and surmised that rising rents driving many restaurants out of the area. More than a few lamented a loss of "good old days."
Former Palm Beach Post food writer and Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Liz Balmaseda visited Park Tavern when they first opened and raved about both the atmosphere and the food especially gushing on then menu items like the crispy Maine lobster tacos, meatball sliders and the warm pretzel bites.
