A Hialeah healthcare facility is laying off more than 170 workers, according to a Florida WARN Notice.
The facility, located at 190 W 28th St. in Hialeah, will see a "mass layoff" of "approximately" 175 people, according to the WARN Notice. The layoffs will begin "on or about" Dec. 6, "with affected separations expected to occur over a 14-day period."
Terrace of Hialeah is listed as one of Elevate Care's locations on its website, which self-describes as a "provider of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services." Most of its locations are in Illinois, with Terrace of Hialeah being the only Florida location listed.
According to Elevate Care, Terrace of Hialeah "provides short term rehabilitation, physical therapy, and skilled nursing services."
The layoff "is expected to affect" administrative and clerical employees, along with those in nursing, food services, housekeeping and laundry.
According to the notice, the layoff is "due to a construction project that will reduce operations resulting in a reduction in force." The action is expected to be "temporary," but "prolonged." The layoff will be conducted by "reverse seniority."
Terrace of Hialeah will remain "open throughout construction," Amanda Andrews, Chief Operating Officer at Elevate Care, said in an emailed statement to the USA TODAY Network, though "portions of some units will temporarily close." Andrews said the construction, scheduled to begin in "early 2027," is intended to "renovate and modernize the facility."
