The West Palm Beach police department wants to be reimbursed $118,000 in overtime costs for protecting President Donald Trump during the past year.
City commissioners have approved submitting an invoice to the federal government for police overtime costs incurred during the 2025-26 budget year “while participating in the effort to protect the President of the United States of America.”
“The City incurred law enforcement personnel overtime while working at the request of and in cooperation with the United States Secret Service, while the President and First Family visited and traveled to and from their home in Palm Beach,” a city memo stated.
The request comes after a year in which Trump made more visits to Palm Beach County and spent more days
at his Mar-a-Lago estate than during any other year of his presidency.
In the eight months between October and May, the president made 17 trips to Palm Beach County and spent 67 days in town.
Those stays included a high-profile, security intensive visit to downtown West Palm Beach in April, where he addressed the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
The year also included visits by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as stays during which Trump launched a war against Iran and a military raid into Venezuela to capture Nicolás Maduro.
The town of Palm Beach in June submitted its own request for $166,000 in overtime reimbursements.
The invoices submitted by Palm Beach and West Palm Beach are sure to be dwarfed by any requests submitted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said in 2025 that his agency spends about $45 million a year on overtime to provide presidential security.
