The news regarding living conditions aboard
the USS Abraham Lincoln is upsetting. The sailors have been at sea without any port stops since February, a new record. Reports indicate poor living conditions with little hot water for showers, substandard food and little mail delivery from home. Unfortunately, these are real war consequences. When asked about the conditions on the Lincoln, the president replied “They’re OK.” When someone commented about the length of time the sailors were aboard the ship without any port stops, he answered, “Not long enough.”
The president was peeved about the [questions about the] complaints. I can only imagine his fury at the actual sailors who complained.
This is a war only the president wanted. His constant threats at Iran made it impossible to do anything but attack. I have no doubt we will eventually win, but at what cost? We’ve already lost sailors and soldiers and many others are wounded. Iran is not Venezuela nor Cuba. They are a formidable foe, but we are the United States of America and we will prevail. During this conflict I’ve often thought about President Teddy Roosevelt’s remark: “Speak softly, but carry a big stick.”

POW complaint letter absurd
I believe The Post sometimes publishes letters to the editor to show different sides of a story or start debate. That is understandable but the letter stating that United States POWs would take issue with the sailors complaining about conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln is just bonkers. These are service men and women defending our country. I can see the recruiting posters now. "Join the Navy. See the World. We promise your food and accommodations will be somewhat better than being a prisoner of war in Japan or Vietnam."

U.S. immigration's unanswered question
It appears to have taken an 18-year-old girl, the oldest of five siblings who faces the deportation of both parents who have been living and working in the Lake Worth Beach area for nearly 20 years, to ask the essential unasked question. After U.S. Border Patrol officers sent the parents ― yes, undocumented immigrants from Guatemala ― to detention centers earlier this month, the eldest child Wendy, who along with her siblings are U.S. citizens, asked: “How exactly is [this] making America great?”
How many of us have asked that question? The follow-up question would be: “Isn’t there a better solution to this problem than ripping families apart and employees from their jobs, causing multiple negative ripple effects?” There is.
For some reason Congress refuses to create a legal pathway to residency, if not citizenship, for people like Wendy’s parents. Instead, we waste millions of dollars on hunting down, detaining, and deporting thousands of people who came here for a better life and have been working hard to achieve that goal. In many cases they follow all the rules and are still treated like criminals. As Wendy asked: “How does that make America great?" We all know the answer.
