Welcome to Athlete of the Week voting from The Palm Beach Post!
It's time to begin our 2026 voting during the fall season. Each week, The Post will highlight the best boys and girls high school student-athlete performances in Palm Beach County. The polls will be open until noon Friday.
Nominees are accepted via email or phone, but will be selected by staff in the absence of submission.
Here's a look at the best boys performances from the first full week of high school competition:
The Post's Boys Athlete of the Week voting (Aug. 17 - 21)
Football offense: Jordan Johnson, Sr., Palm Beach Lakes - Completed 15 of 17 passes for 331 yards and 5 touchdowns in win over Seminole Ridge
Football offense: Braylon Peterson, 8th, Pahokee - Completed 14 of 19 passes for 160 yards and touchdown; led 91-yard game-winning
drive in fourth quarter of varsity debut vs. Dr. Joaquín García
Football offense: Brandon Pendergrass II, So., Palm Beach Central - Rushed 25 times for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns, including game-winning score vs. Glades Central
Football defense: Maxwell Reid, Sr., West Boca Raton - Leading tackler, grabbed late interception as Bulls routed 5-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence and American Heritage-Plantation in Broward County
Football special teams: Brett Boston, So., Santaluces - Racked up 237 all-purpose yards (107 receiving, 130 punt return), 3 touchdowns (1 receiving, 2 punt return) in win vs. Boynton Beach
Cross country: Elijah Arterburn, Sr., Atlantic Christian - Area's top finisher (26th) at the Cecil Field Summer Classic with a time of 16:19.00
Golf: William Cui, Jr., Dwyer - Match-best round (33) with three birdies to defeat Jupiter at Bear Lakes Country Club (Lakes)
Golf: Mateo Muniz, Fr., Wellington - Tied for match-best round (38) to win at Park Vista on Links at Boynton Beach
