A West Palm Beach church has identified one of its ministers as the man killed in a shooting early on Sept. 27 east of Cardinal Newman High School.
Mount Calvary Baptist Church of West Palm Beach said Akeem Moore was its minister of worship and a member of its evangelistic outreach, technology and social media ministries.
"Akeem is known for his dedication to the work of our ministry as a sound and inspiring preacher of the Gospel. His commitment to ministry was demonstrated by his discipline in studies, dedication in service and devotion as a steward of all God entrusted him with in his abbreviated life!" the church, on 36th Street near Lake Mangonia, said in a prepared statement issued on Sept. 28.
"He comes from a strong, well respected family
across this community," the statement added. "He is loved and will be missed by our entire church family and beyond."
Man charged with West Palm murder tracked to Broward County
A 38-year-old man will face charges including first-degree murder with a firearm in the shooting, which occurred along the 500 block of Ontario Place, police said in a prepared statement Sunday.
Investigators tracked Hugh Earp Milner Jr. to Broward County following the shooting. He also will face charges of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
A ShotSpotter alert shortly after midnight reported gunfire along Ontario, between Congress Avenue and the Cardinal Newman campus north of Okeechobee Boulevard, according to the police statement.
Officers found Moore with a gunshot wound. Paramedics took him to a hospital, and he died there. Police did not name the hospital in their prepared statement.
Police say Milner also shot at a second person who was present but who reported no injuries.
